A cure for depression

“Finally, brothers, whatever is true, whatever is honorable, whatever is just, whatever is pure, whatever is lovely, whatever is commendable, if there is any excellence, if there is anything worthy of praise, think about these things.” Phil 4:8

Today is a public holiday here in South Africa, we celebrate Womens day. Because l dont need to get up to take the kids to school l get to spend leisurely time in bed speaking to my Heavenly Husband .

As l spoke to Him about lots of things I first had to apologise for not 1ST speaking to Him and asking Him for his help, plan and solutions to many things l needed to do or fix or purchase 🙏

A lot of the time we feel bogged down looking and trying to do things in our own strength and not knowing what to do or how to do it or to fix things, and if we dont take ALL our worries and concerns, even the stuff we are considering to Him we can end up depressed especially if we dont focus our minds on what is good, pure, lovely, honorable. And especially if we are not in an attitude of gratefulness and praise despite our difficulties. Praising Him because we know that HE WILL take care of everything in faith.

Depression and suicidal thoughts are becoming a huge problem in todays society so we need to do what the scripture above says otherwise we will end up feeling like theres no way out when we battle with our thoughts, we need to give Him all our burdens.

“Come to me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest. Take my yoke upon you and learn from me, for I am gentle and humble in heart, and you will find rest for your souls. For my yoke is easy and my burden is light.” Matt 11:28-30

A cure for depression is Gods word and having an attitude of praise. Dont go another day without stopping and finding a comfortable, quiet plave to be with the Lord to speak to Him about anything and everything and then praise Him and thank Him for taking care of it 🙌

If you have a problem that is so big you see no way out it says that:

“I will go before you and level the mountains [to make the crooked places straight]; I will break in pieces the doors of bronze and cut asunder the bars of iron.

And I will give you the treasures of darkness and hidden riches of secret places, that you may know that it is I, the Lord, the God of Israel, Who calls you by your name.”
Is45:2-3

He will make the crooked places straight. It does not matter what you are facing as long as you surrender and then as it says:

“He makes me lie down in green pastures,
he leads me beside quiet waters,
he refreshes my soul.” Ps23:2-3

And then be at peace as you lay down in green pastures.

  1. This is absolutely right Atarah! Depression and anxiety have become such a normal thing now and those who don’t know Him think this is how life is to be. But when we choose to run to Him and read His word, it always makes us feel better. I know personally it’s helped me and other women during our journeys to cling to every one of His promises. Even now with so many tasks taking care of my home and children, my mind can get overwhelmed but the minute I choose to lean on my Husband everything gets better.

  2. Thank you for sharing dear Atarah, God’s word is the best medicine for depression. Years ago I had depression when my earthly husband left me and I have to admit I really didn’t want to live and after trying to commit suicide a few times and ending up in hospital, my doctor said I have to go to a psychiatric hospital and I asked her to give me one week to sort out my life and she first said she can’t but I kept on begging today I believe it was the Lord that let her give me that chance. And it was the Lord that saved me and there I learned how powerful it is to meditate on God’s word and to praise Him. He was all because of Him that I was saved from depression.
